Yule

Yule is a celebration for the re-birth of the God and the returning of the sun. This can often be symbolised with the lighting of the Yule log which is used to represent the returning sun. A chunk of the Yule log is generally kept to light the next years Yule fire.

The date of Yule varies from year to year depending on the position of the sun but it is always celebrated on the shortest day of the year, and therefore the longest night.
